Introduction

The main components of silicon calcium alloy are silicon and calcium, and different amounts of impurities such as Fe, Al, C, S, P etc. Calcium has a strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in molten steel. So, silicon calcium alloys are usually used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer.

In addition, silicon calcium is added to molten steel to produce a strong exothermic effect, which is beneficial to maintain the temperature of molten steel. The calcium vapor produces a stirring effect on the molten steel, which is beneficial to the floating of non-metallic slag.

In the production of cast iron, calcium silicon is more effective in improving the properties of cast iron than ferrosilicon. Silicon-calcium alloy is not only an effective inoculant to promote the formation of spheroidal graphite, but also has the effects of deoxidation, desulfurization, denitrification and silicon increase.

Silicon barium calcium alloys, silicon aluminum barium calcium alloys, silicon calcium manganese
alloys are also commonly used in steelmaking and casting production. Various types of silicon

Application

  1. Silicon calcium alloy is used as a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steelmaking. Calcium and sulfur
    form a stable compound CaS that is insoluble in molten steel.
  2. In addition to magnesium and rare earth metals, calcium can also reduce the oxygen and sulfur that hinder the formation of spheroidal graphite, and promote the spheroidization of graphite in
    castings.
  3. Effectively avoid the problem of ladle nozzle nodules and blockage.
  4. Treating the molten metal with pure calcium or silicon-calcium alloy can improve the physical and
    chemical properties of the metal, which is beneficial to improve the oxide and sulfide inclusions
    in the finished steel and castings.
